Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Respect
Reduce:
The amount and toxicity of trash you discard. Source reduction
often called waste prevention, means consuming and throwing away less.
|
Source reduction includes purchasing durable, long lasting
goods and seeking products and packaging that are as free
of toxics as possible.
|
Reuse:
Containers and products; repair what is broken or give it to someone
who can repair it. Reusing items by repairing them, donating them to
charity and community groups, or selling them also reduces waste. Use
a product more than once, either for the same purpose or for a different
purpose.
|
One can reuse durable mugs and beverage containers, plastic
bottles, boxes, empty jars, surplus clothes or equipment by
donating them, etc.
|
Recycle:
As much as possible, which includes buying products with recycled content.
Recycling turns materials that would otherwise become waste into valuable
resources and generates a host of environmental, financial and social benefits.
|
One can recycle pizza boxes, mixed paper (including newspaper, magazines,
books, office paper), corrugated cardboard, glass (all colors), #1 and #2
plastics, aluminum cans.
|
Respect:
The environment and others around us. Respect your home, neighbors and work
place by keeping them clean and litter free. It is important to respect
the environment.
|
To complete the circle, it is important to “buy recycled” products.
This makes recycling economically feasible. When recycled products are bought,
there is an economic incentive for recyclable materials to be collected,
processed and marketed as new products. Purchasing products made from or
packaged in recycled materials saves resources for future generations.
