10 Things You Can Do

  1. Reduce junk mail by removing your name from mailing lists. Fill out and mail the enclosed junk mail coupon to reduce unsolicited mail.
  2. Use a refillable mug instead of a paper or styrofoam cup. Some companies will even discount your drink price when you use a refillable mug.
  3. Turn off the water faucet when brushing your teeth. This simple act can save up to 9 gallons of water every time you brush.
  4. BUY WISELY! Choose products with minimal packaging which are easily recyclable or made from recycled material. Look for products with phrases like, "Printed on recycled paper" or "Made with post-consumer content".
  5. Conserve energy by using natural daylight and turning off appliances like room lights and computer monitors when you leave. Your monitor can be powered down by setting it to suspend or sleep mode.
  6. Use alternate modes of transportation. Ride a bike or take the bus. Remember, the Miami Metro is FREE with your MU ID!
  7. Donate reusable goods like clothes, books and appliances to local charities and resale stores.
  8. Use both sides of a piece of paper to take notes and make draft copies. Make double-sided copies when printing and photocopying.
  9. Avoid using neon and dark-colored paper since these are difficult to recycle. They contain metals which contaminate the recycling process and are harmful to the environment. Instead use lighter colored paper and graphics to get attention.
  10. RECYCLE wherever you can! There are many locations across the MU campus that collect recyclables including the Shriver Center, Dining Halls, Libraries and Academic buildings.
